Description

LTI Korea held a “Meet the Poet” event in collaboration with the Korean Studies Department at the University of São Paulo and attended the 4th Pauliceia Literary Festival. Poet Oh Sae-young met with around twenty students of the Korean Studies Program at the University of São Paulo on September 15 and gave a lecture on the history of Korean poetry after the 18th century. The students recited their Portuguese renditions of the poet’s famous poems. They also asked him several questions, ranging from his poetry to Korean society and culture. On September 16, Oh held an in-depth discussion with poet Moacir Amâncioon on the topic “Poetry and Religion" at the AASP(Associação dos Advogados de São Paulo) building. The two poets touched on diverse themes, such as the significance of poetry in Buddhist and Jewish cultures, and the distance between poetry and reality. The event was attended by nearly hundred people, some of whom said that wanted to see more such exchanges between Korean and Brazilian poets. Local publishers also displayed interested in publishing Oh’s collections in Brazil.
