French literary festival "Meeting"

LTI Korea took part in the literary festival “Meeting” held in Saint-Nazaire and Paris from November 19 to 25. Korea was invited as the Guest of Honor at the festival this year in commemoration of 130 years of diplomatic relations between Korea and France. The theme this year was “Traduire la Vie.” LTI Korea took writers Lee Seung-U, Song Sokze, Pyun Hye Young and Kim Un-su to France and held a wide range of events, including book readings and discussions, for them. The first event to be held as part of the festival was the screening of the movie Bleak Night on November 20 in Saint-Nazaire. On November 21, the four writers took part in discussions where they talked about modern Korean literature and writing in the city. On November 22, Song Sokze and Kim Un-su took part in an event titled “Writing for Saint-Nazaire” in which they presented their essays.

On November 23, LTI Korea arranged a promotional event for Lee Seung-U at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. On November 24, the four writers took part in a discussion and book signing event at the Librairie Phoenix bookstore.

Lee Seung-U enjoys great popularity among French readers with several of his books being published in France, starting with the publication of The Reverse Side of Life in 2000. Song Sokze’s A qui mieux mieux was published in France and his short story was adapted for the stage at the Festival d'Avignon. Pyun Hye Young’s Red and Ash was published in France in 2012 and the Aoi Garden was published in 2015. Her Rabbit Grave is set to be published in 2016. Kim Un-su’s Story of a Pimp and Cabinet were published in France in 2011 and 2013 respectively. His Designers is set to be published in 2016.
