Description

Celebrated South Korean short story writer and novellist Yi Mun-yol emigrated from South to North Korea with his family as a child, among a wave of intellectuals who made the move at the advent of the war. Filmed at the PEN Literary Salon at London Book Fair 2014, Yi speaks with Guardian literary editor Claire Armitstead about cultural identity, the different ways his work has been interpreted internationally and the relevance of religion and ritual in his writing.
